Universities

In 1865 2.3 percent of Americans attended colleges or universities. Changes began in universities in 1880 and 1920 when their enrollments quadrupled. Huge changes also began in the curriculum and admissions policies. The developement of industries made huge changes in the nation`s education. Colleges emerged by offering courses in modern languages, physical science, and new disciplines of psychology and sociology. There were also professional schools in law and medicine that were established along with private schools that you have to take a required exam for enrollment, but most colleges accepted your enrollment only based on your high school diplomas.
